How to Encode Your Media Using Windows Media Encoder

This tutorial requires that you have Windows Media Encoder software installed on your computer. To download the latest version for your operating system please visit the Microsoft Windows Media Encoder page.
Capturing Video or Audio from a Device to a File Using the New Session Wizard
1. NEW SESSION
Open the New Session Wizard, click on the Capture audio or video icon and then click the OK button.

2. DEVICE OPTIONS
To encode Video and/or Audio select the Video and/or Audio check boxes accordingly and click Next >.

3. OUTPUT FILE
Select a location where you would like to save your file and give it a filename. Click Next >.

4. CONTENT DISTRIBUTION
For the Window Media distribution format
make sure that Windows Media server (streaming) is selected and click Next >.

5. ENCODING OPTIONS
Select the encoding settings that you feel would be best suited for your content. Use the Video and/or Audio dropdowns to help you decide. When done clicked Next >.

6. DISPLAY INFORMATION
Enter information about your file in the Title, Author, Copyright, Rating and Description fields. This data will be displayed when your media file is being played.

7. SETTINGS REVIEW
Review the summary of your selected settings. If you are satisfied with your selections click Finish. If you need to modify your settings then click < Back to make the necessary changes.

8. Once you are ready to begin encoding press the Start Encoding button towards the top of the window and start your video and/or audio.
